The funny thing about cats (actually, one of the 839 funny things about cats), is how they can be sitting quietly one minute, gazing serenely into the distance in that sphinx-like way of theirs, and the next minute they’re caterwauling demons, growling, hissing and wrestling in what looks and sounds like a fight to the death. Even though no one ever gets hurt.
The interesting thing about this, from my experience with our four cats, is that it’s the two males, Teddy and Leo, who start all of the fights - usually with each other. Occasionally they take on Clara or Annie, who hold their own quite well in these situations.
The girls, on the other hand, never go to war with one another, nor do they scuffle with the boys, except in self-defense.
Short-tempered males launching full-blown but pointless conflicts instantaneously and at random, while the females of the species steer clear of combat unless provoked. Perhaps cats have a far better understanding of human history than we realize, but why do they want to mimic us?
