New England's National Historic Landmarks: Rhode Island


The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

Newport Historic District

The Newport Historic District covers 250 acres in the center of Newport. It was designated a National Historic District because of its extensive assortment of colonial buildings.
