New England's National Historic Landmarks: Rhode Island


The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

Old Slater Mill, Pawtucket

The Slater Mill is a textile mill complex on the banks of the Blackstone River. It is the first water-powered cotton spinning mill in North America to utilize the system of spinning developed by Richard Arkwright.
