New England's National Historic Landmarks: Massachusetts


The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

MASSACHUSETTS
Longfellow House, Cambridge


This 1759 Georgian house was used by George Washington as his residence during the 1775–76 siege of Boston. In the 19th century it was purchased for poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow by his father-in-law.
