Merriam-Webster defines annus mirabilis as "a remarkable or notable year." Yup, that was 2015 all right, but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons (terrorism, the refugee crisis, mass shootings, rogue cops, wacky weather, Donald Trump, etc.).
There's no guarantee the new year will be any better, and some reason to fear it may even prove to be worse. (We do have a presidential election coming up, after all.) Still, hope springs eternal. Welcome, 2016!
