Cartoonist Stephan Pastis takes on crazed cyclists. Again. (Yes!)

I have nothing against cyclists. Well, not all of them anyway. But some cyclists drive us nuts when my wife Liz and I are out walking on the riverside trail near our home. These are the guys -- almost all of them are guys -- who race down the trail as if training for the Tour de France and scream -- positively scream! -- "ON YOUR LEFT" as they approach us from behind.

They do this even if it's obvious that we are not in their way.

They do this even if they're the problem because they're riding way too fast for the multiuse trail they're on.

They do this even if better alternatives would be to speak at a normal volume, or to use a bell.

They do this even if I turn around to look at them when I hear them coming, so it's all the more obvious that I'm already aware of their presence.

They do this, apparently, because they resent walkers, they love the sound of their own voice and they are, to put it bluntly, egotistical.

All of which explains why I love it when the Pearls Before Swine comic strip pokes fun at these self-absorbed bores, as the strip does quite frequently.

Pearls Before Swine, Stephan Pastis
