New England's National Historic Landmarks: Vermont

The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

VERMONT
St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, St. Johnsbury

The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum is significant because of its landscape paintings and books from its original role as a public library and free art gallery. The building retains a strong Victorian flavor of the 19th century.
