New England's National Historic Landmarks: Vermont


The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

Naulakha (Rudyard Kipling House), Dummerston

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) had this Shingle Style house built in 1893 and made it his home until 1896. It is in this house that Kipling wrote Captains Courageous, The Jungle Book and other works.
