New England's National Historic Landmarks: Massachusetts


The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

MASSACHUSETTS
House of the Seven Gables, Salem


Best known for its association with Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel, this 1668 house was also a key early preservation effort, successfully restored in the early 20th century.
