Recalling Abraham Lincoln's 1862 "collation"

The margins of history can be as fascinating as the main narrative, because in the margins we find little-known anecdotes that illuminate the page as a whole. So it is with this article from The New York Times about the 55th New York Infantry Regiment and its unusual encounter with President Abraham Lincoln in January 1862, when the Civil War was entering its second year. Thanks to my friend Lee for sending along the link.
