A contractor was paving three side streets near our house yesterday, so the streets were closed off. They were littered with all sorts of heavy machinery. Pavers to lay down blacktop. Compactors with huge rollers. You name it and it was out there. The whole neighborhood smelled like it was being turned into a parking lot.
So what did I see on the closest of the three streets when I took one of our dogs into the yard? A guy driving a pristine white compact on the freshly-paved, still-wet street, sailing past all of the workers and their machinery as if they were part of a silly roadside attraction that held no interest for him.
God only knows how this clueless fellow managed to ignore the traffic cones and the signs and the flaggers and all of the other obvious indicators of roadwork, but he did. Whatever skills he may have, they don't include keen powers of observation. Or much of a sense of smell.
