New England's National Historic Landmarks: Massachusetts


The National Register of Historic Places contains more than 85,000 sites, but only some 2,500 of them have been listed as National Historic Landmarks. New England is home to hundreds of these particularly significant structures, objects and places.

MASSACHUSETTS
Ralph Waldo Emerson Home, Concord


This house was purchased by writer, poet, and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson in 1835. It was where he wrote all of his major works, and was a major meeting point for Transcendentalists.
